How the Play-In NBA works?
Q: How will the Play-In Tournament be structured? At the conclusion of the regular season but before the first round of the playoffs, the team with the 7th-highest winning percentage in each conference will host the team with the 8th-highest winning percentage in a Play-In Game (the “Seven-Eight Game”). The winner of the Seven-Eight Game will earn the 7th playoff seed in its respective conference, while the losing team will get one more chance to earn the 7th playoff seed by playing another team in the “Nine-Ten Game” – the 9th-place team in the conference. The winner of the Nine-Ten Game will advance to compete against the loser of the Seven-Eight Game in a “Play-In Game for the 7th Seed”. The winner of the Play-In Game for the 7th Seed will claim the 7th playoff seed in its respective conference.
How do NBA teams qualify?
Before the play-in tournament, the top eight seeds in each league would automatically qualify for the playoffs after the regular season; that’s no longer the case. Only teams in the top six seeds in each league will get a postseason berth. For the remaining two spots, the seventh and eighth seeds in each conference will have to face off in a single-elimination play-in tournament. The winner will get the seventh seed, while the loser will get the eighth seed — and the last spot in the playoffs.
How does the NBA play-in work in 2022?
The top 1-6 ranked NBA teams in each conference that finish with the highest winning percentages in the regular season games will directly earn the playoff spot. And 7-10th No. teams in each conference need to stay for the play-in to earn the playoff spot. After the regular season there will be a four team single-elimination tournament between the 7th-8th ranked teams and 9th-10th ranked teams with the 7th-8th placed teams needing to win just one game. Winners of those two games will face each other and the winner of that game will earn the 7th seed in their respective conference. Similarly, the loser of the 7-8 game and the winner of the 9-10 game face each other and the winner of that game will earn the 8th seed in the conference.
How do NBA playoffs and finals work?
The playoffs usually begin in mid-April and last until mid-June. The playoffs consist of the top eight teams from both the Eastern and Western conferences, and those teams from each conference compete to eliminate each other until the last team in each conference plays each other in the finals. The four rounds of the NBA playoffs are the first round (Conference Quarterfinals), Conference Semifinals, Conference Finals, and finally the NBA Finals. In the NBA Finals, the winners of the two divisions face off in a best-of-seven-game series. The team that wins four games out of the series is crowned the NBA champion.
